How to Measure Your Room and Order the Right Amount of Wallpaper
Ordering too little means you run short mid-install. Ordering too much wastes money. This guide walks you through the exact calculation.
What You'll Need
Step 1: Measure Your Walls
Measure the width of each wall to be papered, and the height from skirting board to ceiling. Write these down.
Example room:
Step 2: Calculate Total Drop Length Needed
Standard wallpaper rolls are 10m long and either 52cm or 106cm wide.
For each wall:
For our example (assuming 52cm wide rolls):
Total: 86.4m
Step 3: Account for Pattern Repeat
If your wallpaper has a pattern repeat (shown on the label as e.g. "64cm repeat"), you lose material matching patterns. Add the repeat length to each drop height.
Pattern repeat: 0.64m
New drop length: 2.7 + 0.64 = 3.34m per drop
Total with repeat: 32 drops ร 3.34m = 106.9m
Step 4: Divide by Roll Length
106.9 รท 10m per roll = 10.7 โ order 12 rolls (always round up and add 10% buffer)
Quick Estimate Method
Perimeter ร ceiling height รท roll coverage.
Most standard rolls cover approximately 5 sq m net. Divide your total wall area by 5 and add 15%.
